My name is Adam Cohen. I am a licensed psychotherapist, registered with the state of California's Board of Behavioral Sciences as a MFT # 100626.
I graduated from Pacifica Graduate Institute with an M.A. in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology. In conjunction with graduate school, I obtained further clinical training at the University of San Francisco's Center for Child & Family Development, and with Bay Area Community Resources.
I am a Humanistic and Psychodynamic oriented therapist, drawing particular influence from Person-Centered Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Depth Psychology, and Attachment Theory.
My practice primarily focuses on adolescents, LGBTQ+ youth, and young adults. Specifically, I have extensive experience supporting younger clients in moving through anxiety and/or depression, dealing with stress, navigating the challenges of their social world, exploring their gender and sexual identity, and tending to the suffering that can come from a death, loss, divorce, or any major life transition. In session, I draw upon curiosity, humor, and empathic understanding as guiding forces in my approach, and place particular emphasis on supporting my clients towards their own definition of empowerment, authenticity, and compassion for self.
I believe integral to successful counseling is the relationship between the person and therapist. Therefore, I seek to create a comfortable and safe space for clients to be their authentic selves.
